Counting, Counting, Counting!!

Pre-K- Third Grade

Remote learning and extra time spent at home is a great opportunity to practice counting!
Counting is one of the most basic math skills that our children develop.
First counting up to 3, then 5, then 10, etc.

Counting is a task that can be completed for free, anywhere!
Counting backward is a skill that is essential for subtraction.

For older children (Late 2nd, 3rd, 4th Grade) beginning and practicing multiplication.
Skip counting is great practice for multiplication.
Count by 3's, 4's, 7's, etc.

Ideas:
  • Have your child count the number of gold fish they're having for snack,
  • Count the steps you take on your outdoor adventures.
  • Collect rocks or sticks, put them in order of length, count how many you found.
  • Count the number of seconds it takes to do the dishes - see if you can beat it next time!
  • Count back from 60, if something needs to happen in just a minute.
  • If using snacks - count all, count backwards as they get eaten.
  • Play Count and Sit as a family! Choose a skip counting (or regular counting) sequence. Choose a number to sit on.
